SEGI SJ – The 11th Convocation

SEGI SJ – The 11th Convocation

30 June, 2013 – Petaling Jaya. It was encouraging and exciting to see 319 Diploma and Certificate students graduating today. They were from the Faculty of Business and Accounting, Faculty of Creative Arts & Design, Faculty of Engineering & Information Technology, Faculty of Nursing & Allied Health Sciences, School of Hospitality & Tourism, and the Centre for Pre-University Studies.

Staff members from these faculties and from the Operations department , together with the Heads of Deparments, were there to give the graduands their support, and to cheer them on as they collected their scrolls. Their presence and that of the graduands’ parents made it an extra special day. Every graduand received a bouquet with a bear, and to top it off, the enthusiastic lecturers also gave them each a big bear hug.

Being named the Valedictorian is an honour, and it culminates from a journey of hard work and perseverance . Nor Hannah Shahruddin was selected from among the top students to be the Valedictorian for the 11th Convocation. Her speech at the end of the ceremony was heartwarming, with anecdotes that were shared by most of the graduates. Touched by her superb delivery, a parent went up to congratulate her. She truly has done us proud.
In her address to the graduands, Dr. Lisa Tan, the Principal, congratulated the students for their commitment and academic excellence . She advised them to use their skills and knowledge well, and to continue with lifelong learning for self development. They would also need to mingle with people who are positive in their outlook and attitude to do well in their careers and in their lives.

A big “Thank You” to Puan Rokiah and the convocation organising committee for this memorable event.

To the graduands, this poem by Robert Frost, is dedicated to you. As you decide on your next course of action, do remember your good times at SEGi College, Subang Jaya. Many will decide to work after graduating with a diploma because it is the beginning of financial freedom. Perhaps a few will carry on their academic journey towards a bachelors’ degree. Just remember that your SEGi College “ family members” would love to welcome you again into our folds. It may be a road less travelled, but it may be the one that will make all the difference to your future career. Plan it well – cheers!

THE ROAD LESS TAKEN
– By: Robert Frost –
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
and sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveller, long I stood
and looked down one as far as I could
to where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
and having perhaps the better claim
because it was grassy and wanted wear;
though as for that, the passing there
had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
in leaves no feet had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I –
I took the one less travelled by,
and that has made all the difference
